Titanium plates and sheets are available with various surface finishes. The importance of the surface finish largely depends on the application and the proximity to the finished state, as the product surface is often completed after final manufacturing. The common supply condition is annealed mill finish, but Standard Titanium Company can provide various surface finishes based on size and supply conditions. The different types of surface finishes include:
- Grinding
- Polishing
- Pickling (descaling)
- Brushing
- Blasting – shot/sand
The standard does not explicitly define the different surface finishes and supply conditions, so it largely depends on individual mills and agreements outside of any standards. The ASTM B600 standard is a key guideline for providing rust removal and cleaning of titanium and titanium alloys but does not define the gloss, color, or roughness of the surface.
